Advent 2021: Week 1

Hi UP Members!

Is Christmas meaningful to you?

It is for me.

Yet… I feel there is a lot of pressure to make Christmas sentimental, commercial, or just another seasonal routine.

This year I’d like to refresh and deepen my appreciation for Christmas — with you.

In fact, this is the purpose of Advent. It is a season of preparation for Christmas. And it raises our expectation of Christ’s second return. The word Advent simply means “arrival” or “coming.”

Would you like to prepare your heart for Christmas? What if you could do that in an international community… with insights from brothers and sisters in Christ from many nations?

This week, we’ll read and discuss these five passages of Scripture:

Monday, November 29th: Genesis 3:8-15. Discuss here.
Tuesday, November 30th: Genesis 22:1-19
Wednesday, December 1: Psalm 61:0-8
Thursday, December 2: Isaiah 11:1-10
Friday, December 3: John 1:1-18

To awaken your heart as we enter this time of expectation, I recommend the hymn Come, Thou Long Expected Jesus. Here’s one beautiful version:
