Who do you want to be when you grow up?

Who do you want to be when you grow up?

It’s a great question for kids — but it’s one we forget about as adults.

Kids in the American South often say things like, “firefighter” or “police officer.” They’re specific, detailed, concrete pictures of what life could be like.

The Bible does the same. Hebrews 13:7 reads,

Remember your leaders who have spoken God’s word to you. As you carefully observe the outcome of their lives, imitate their faith.

That might be too abstract, but in Hebrews 11, the author gives us dozens of specific examples to SHOW us what a mature walk with Jesus looks like.

So who do YOU want to be when you grow up?

For me, two heroes are my grandmom and granddad. Their demeanor was kind. They looked for the fun and the happiness in each situation. They demonstrated basic goodness and decency as a way of life.

When I think, ‘what kind of person do I want to be in 40 years?’, their example still comes to mind.

What about you? Who showed you - with their life - a picture of Christian maturity?
