What makes it hard to follow Jesus with friends?

Hi everyone,

My research for the Doctor of Ministry degree confirmed that the healthiest, strongest disciples have many close friends who help them follow Jesus.

But I know from personal experience that building these friendships is difficult.

In the first place, it can be hard to meet someone who is passionate about following Jesus.

Even when we do, there are personality differences, scheduling obstacles, geographical barriers, mismatched spiritual interest, unresolved conflicts, and generational gaps that keep us from connecting.

Perhaps most of all, we’re just busy.

In your experience, what makes it hard to follow Jesus with friends?

I think some of my biggest struggles in following Jesus with my friends has resulted from the reality that we are still all broken people.

Like Jesus told his apostles, our calling is to forgive 70x7. In close relationships, sometimes that amount of forgiveness is exhausting. especially in the midst of an already busy life. Cultural or generational differences, miscommunications, and just plain sin all play into the difficulty (and importance) of being longsuffering with one another as we seek Christ together!
