When “truth” turns out to be a lie, and “trustworthy” leaders turn out to be bullies, it’s disorienting.
If someone claims to see God, what can you say?
How do you know?
I was relieved to discover an answer that Jesus gives us. It’s right there in the Beatitudes:
Blessed are the pure in heart,
for they will see God.
Purity of heart is required to see God.
So:
Leaders who abuse others are not seeing or speaking for God.
What a relief.
