This is my SOAP Study today, I’m sharing this as I would appreciate your prayers.
I found this extremely challenging but necessary.
Proverbs 10:12 Hatred stirs up strife, But love covers all sins
Observation:
Author King Solomon is the principal writer of Proverbs. Solomon’s name appears in 1:1, 10:1, and 25:1.
Date of Writing: Solomon’s proverbs were penned around 900 B.C. During his reign as king, the nation of Israel reached its pinnacle spiritually, politically, culturally, and economically.
Purpose of Writing: The book of Proverbs is a guide for living a life that is pleasing to God through the application of wisdom, understanding, and discernment.
Hatred stirs up strife
Bible Hub defines Hatred, as a powerful and destructive emotion that is opposite to the love and compassion God desires for His creation.
The Hebrew word for “stirs up” suggests an active, intentional provocation, indicating that hatred is not passive but seeks to create conflict.
The Hebrew word for hate means to detest, to loath or to be hostile which leads to rejection, conflict and division and is a destructive force that can tear apart relationships.
Genesis 4:5-8 records Cain’s jealousy and anger towards his brother Abel concluded in the first murder, empathizing how explosive emotions can lead to serious sin.
As Christians, we are called to recognize and root out hatred in our hearts.
But love covers all sins
The phrase “covers all transgressions” refers to the concept of atonement, where sins are forgiven and relationships are restored. This is seen in the sacrificial system of the Old Testament, which pointed to the ultimate sacrifice of Jesus Christ, whose love and sacrifice cover the sins of humanity (1 Peter 4:8).
Cf Jas 4:1; 1 Co 13:4; Jas 5:20 1 peter 4:8;
Application:
I was challenged in reading ‘We are called to recognize and root out hatred in our hearts.’ I have often said under my breath I don’t like myself. This is self rejection and I must repent and believe God and what He says about me.
Prayer
Father Thank you for this study. I repent of rejecting You and Your Truth when I reject myself. I choose to renew my mind to believe that You love me John 3:16 and sent Jesus to die for my sins so that I could be forgiven and know You.1 John 4:9-10. Please help me to believe these Truths and renew my mind. That I am Your child, (John 1:12) I am justified (Romans. 5:1) I am chosen by You and adopted as Your child (Ephesians 1:3-8) I am redeemed and forgiven of all my sins. (Colossians 1:13-14) and reject lies in Jesus’ Name Amen.
