John 1:29

I have found the last week difficult but the Lord is strengthening me.
A few weeks ago I was encouraged to use the S O A P method in Bible Study and am finding this so helpful.

Scripture John 1:29

The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him and said, “Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!

Observation

In John 1:23 John the Baptist was the fulfillment of the prophecy given in Isaiah 40:3 “A voice cries out: ‘In the wilderness prepare the way of the LORD, make straight in the desert a highway for our God.'”
Luke 176 says “ And you, child, will be called the prophet of the Highest ” And John the Baptizer was identified elsewhere in the New Testament as a prophet.
Lambs often represent purity and innocence.
Lambs were offered as sacrifices to atone for sin. These sacrifices were repeated daily and annually.
John shows Jesus as the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world. God is Holy, and because of our sin, we cannot know Him. But John 3:16 shows God 's love for who gives His Son Jesus who is the Lamb of God whose once and for all sacrifice pays for sin. It is only by trusting in Jesus and his sacrifice for our sin that we can become God’s children.

Application

Jesus is the Lamb of God whose sacrifice is the only payment for my sin.And it’s only through Jesus that I can know forgiveness and peace with God.

Prayer

Father Thank You You gave Jesus to be the Lamb of God who once for all sacrifice made it possible for each of us to come and know you and trust you.

Jesus thank you that each of these names show me more of Your character and Your Love.Amen

Hi @karen4,

Thank you for this encouraging reflection.

One thing that I have experienced over time is this idea that I need to have faith in order to be saved. But the order is that Jesus has taken away my sin, and I experience that gift by faith.

What I am trying to say, or the transformation I have experienced, is that I do not need to stress out about how much faith I have (or don’t have).

Rather, I only need to gently remind myself of the reality that already exists: my sin has been taken away.

So, I am united to God. I am cleansed of all reasons for guilt, shame, or fear in his presence. (Though I may need to apologize to someone, make a situation right, or otherwise choose a new path - but I do this with the support of knowing that God loves me and is helping me to be like Christ).

John the Baptist announced what Jesus would do. We can read this as even better news: Jesus has already taken away our sin!
