James 1:22-25 - Am I looking intently into God's word?

James 1:22-25 says,

But be doers of the word and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. Because if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like someone looking at his own face in a mirror. For he looks at himself, goes away, and immediately forgets what kind of person he was. But the one who looks intently into the perfect law of freedom and perseveres in it, and is not a forgetful hearer but a doer who works—this person will be blessed in what he does.

I wonder how much of my time reading the Bible has been devoted only to hearing?

Ok, I read God’s word. I heard what it said. I can repeat what it said. I’m familiar with what it said.

But have I looked intently into it? Have I studied it, meditated on it, prayed about it, and resolved to persevere in what it says? As a result, am I doing what God taught me?

May the Spirit empower me to look intently into God’s perfect law of freedom.
