How has a friend helped you love God?

Hi friends,

One of the ways I invest in my spiritual growth is by learning from the wisdom God has given others.

For instance, in college, I once prayed with a friend for an extended time. I prayed out loud occasionally while he stayed silent.

As we walked out of the chapel, I kind of hoped he had noticed my prayers (embarrassing, I know).

So, I said something like, “Man, that was a passionate time of prayer, wasn’t it?”

He gently replied, “Oh, was it? I wasn’t really paying attention to you; my focus was on Jesus.”

He wasn’t putting me down or bragging—he was totally sincere. It was a humbling moment that reminded me that prayer isn’t about ‘showing off’—how silly—but about worshipping God.

In my attempt to pray ‘passionately,’ I had missed the importance of true prayer: to draw close to God.

I hope that story helps you. And now I’d love to learn from you:

What’s one of the most meaningful ways a friend has helped you love God?
