How can I tell if I am being honest with God. I see Jesus in the beauty of His Creation. My church encouraged me to be honest with God because He knows what we’re doing, thinking and feeling anyway

That’s a great question.

I like to provide answers, but to be honest with you, I think this is one area of life that’s a mystery.

I say that because, as I look back on my faith in prior years, I know that I sincerely wanted to follow and worship God, but I can see ways in which I wasn’t honest with myself, and so I wasn’t honest with God.

However, the more I experienced and internalized that I am God’s beloved son, and understand myself as a disciple of Jesus, the more I have felt comfortable acknowledging my ‘shadow side.’ It is hard to admit that I have blind spots, that I am not as good as I want to believe I am, and that I need God’s grace more than feels safe.

I don’t know that we’re ever able to be fully honest with God. But maybe, to the degree that we know that God loves us, we are able to feel comfortable being honest with him?

I also said that my church encouraged me to be honest with God because he knows everything anyway
