This week, following the liturgical schedule (in part), we are reflecting on Psalm 105:1-45.
I sense that there is a lot of anxiety and fear about what is going on in the world - and what the future looks like.
So, it’s a good time to meditate on a corporate prayer that celebrates God’s faithfulness. Psalm 105 reminds us that God always keeps his promises. It’s by meditating on the wondrous works he has done that we gain confidence to stay loyal to him in the uncertainty of our age.
Monday:
Psalm 105:1-6
Reflection:
Notice how the Psalmist redirects our attention to God:
Give thanks
Call on his name
Make his deeds known
Sing to him
Boast in his name
Over and over again, we’re reminded to seek God’s face.
Question:
What gets your attention?
How would giving greater attention to the Lord change your perspective?
This is my first time in Community Bible Study, and I am enjoying, being taught, learning, feeling the sharing with other believer’s, especially being a chosen one that besides being with my husband, I spend a lot of time alone, and in my Studies of Scripture and especially intimate times with God, in Christ Jesus, in the Lord Jesus Name. I need this Community love in unity of the cause of Christ in the Lord Jesus Name. My husband, who is a busy man himself, is glad for this outlet for me too. I am a new member and look forward to much more everything offered here, and hope to add much also. In the Lord Jesus Name, I am,
This passage emphasizes God’s eternal identity: the governor of Creation and Covenant.
But more than this, he is our God, a personal God who knows us.
We can trust God because he is Sovereign.
But we know that he is in charge - and faithful - because he has revealed himself to us, and committed to be good to us, by his gracious, faithful promises.
I can definitely relate to uncertainty and anxiety about the future. So, I really appreciated the chance to slow down and meditate on this Psalm together.
As I read, all of these calls stood out to me, not just because of the way they redirect us to God, but also because of the joy with which they are made! There are so many exclamation marks in my translation! And Ps 105:3 particularly calls out the joy that God’s greatness brings to those who seek him.
It just reminds me and shows me the need to set my mind on the Lord and all that he has done.
As, I meditated on the verses for today, Ps 105:7-11, the Lord’s faithfulness really stuck out. Not only because it’s called out in v. 8, but also because of how God confirmed his promise again, and again, and again, and by the end of the Psalm he is shown to have brought it to completion.
Yet, if his faithfulness in bringing his people to the promise land brought so much joy to the Psalmist, how much more joy should I have when remembering his fulfillment of the promise to bring blessing to all peoples through Christ (Gen 22:18; Gal 3:10-18) and the better rest that awaits all those who trust in him (Heb 4:6-13)?
So, this Psalm was a really helpful reminder for me today to slow down and give him praise and thanks for all that he has done! Thank you for sharing it and what God’s been showing you through it! I’m excited to hear and learn from others too as we study the Psalm this week!
