A Servant’s Posture: Reimagining Prayer with James

Hi friends,

Let’s discuss:

  1. When you think of prayer, do you see it as a transaction or a relationship?
  2. What hesitations do you have about approaching God as a servant?
  3. Reflect on a recent unanswered prayer. How did it affect your relationship with God? What helped you make sense of that experience?
  4. How does God’s servant heart toward you affect your willingness to serve him?

  1. When you think of prayer, do you see it as a transaction or a relationship?
: Of course, I believe it as a relationship, but sometimes, like in prayer, I feel like I am making a transaction because I do not have faith.

  2. What hesitations do you have about approaching God as a servant?
: When I have some faults and when I remember past sins that I have not repented of with faith, etc.

  3. Reflect on a recent unanswered prayer.
How did it affect your relationship with God? What helped you make sense of that experience?
: Whenever I see our brothers and sisters committing unjust and illegal acts in the name of the church, I pray that only God’s righteous and good will be done. In the process, even though my prayers are not answered, I pray only for my Father’s good will and mercy to be granted to our brothers so that they can reach repent.

  4. How does God’s servant heart affect your willingness to serve him?
: I am thankful that the “cross” is always at the center of prayer. Because the cross of Jesus is a place of prayer where one can lay down one’s will and obey until death so that the Father’s will may be fulfilled.
