This was so encouraging. There are three things that, when shaken, shake a man to his core - they are identity, security and provision/survival. All three of these were disturbed when Abram heard this call and pondered its possible consequences. The glorious thing is that Abram still obeyed.
To uproot oneself and family at that age to go on a journey where the destination is not clearly specified takes a lot of faith and courage. Abraham obeyed and the fruit of this obedience was that the Messiah came through his line of descendants to bless the whole world with the true riches of salvation and eternal life and the hope of a new heaven and earth.
Abraham’s obedience always challenges me. He obeyed even when things were uncertain because he was certain of the one who called him. He knew that he could trust the invisible God from his years of knowing Him. Today, we too are called to obey and follow. When we obey Him in trust, even when there are seeming uncertainties, God works out His kingdom as we walk in obedience.
Abraham did not see the full reality of how his obedience would work out (the Messiah would come about 2000 years later!), but his obedience, in the face of inexplicable circumstances, resulted in blessing.
